Approximately 1 billion people in the world eat chocolate every day.
People pour about 1.4 billion cups of coffee per day worldwide.
I myself drink way too much coffee everyday and eat delicious chocolate more often that I'd like to admit.
But which one is better for your health?
The answer is quite simple but its arguments are various and quite interesting.
According to a study conducted by the Charalambos Vlachopoulos of Athens Medical School, chocolate leads to relaxation, as the interviewers' blood pressure variations showed.
Respondents were part of the experiments for two days: on the first one they were asked to eat dark chocolate, while on the second they were not given any snacks and their blood pressures were measured.
Cardiologist Konstantinos Aznaouridis tested the effects of caffeine on arteries dilatation as well. The result was that drinking coffee brings tension to the individual.
Although the studies had a brief duration and were conducted on a restricted sample of people, the results are very indicative and can be generalized.
Thus, chocolate is considered as a mood enhancer and stress reliever. Unlike caffeine, which can cause heart palpitations, anxiety, and elevates blood pressure and stress.
Chocolate also increases mental sharpness and the cognitive functions, as a study on elderly people and individuals affected by Alzheimer showcased.
Chocolate has definitely a higher nutritional value and a higher amount of calories, but the common belief that this food leads to weight gain and acne is partially wrong: chocolate has a significant role in fitness as well; in fact, in conjunction with a balanced and healthy diet and a workout plan, dark chocolate can actually help people lose weight.
It's true that chocolate contains caffeine, even more so dark chocolate; in fact, you'd have to eat 4 bars of chocolate to receive the same amount of energy boost of a cup of coffee (approximately 95 milligrams).
All things considered, chocolate has a better impact on an individual's health than caffeine, and this should be highlighted as a significant benefit that the product can bring to consumers.
